Klebergs' saltbush (Atriplex klebergorum)

  • bushy annual with flaky pale brown bark
  • internodes very short
  • leaves stalkless, about 1/2-3/4 inches long, ovate or triangular, pointed at tip and truncate as base
  • powdery-hairy surface of leaves gives them a greenish-yellow color
  • flowers inconspicuous, unisexual, males and females on same plant
  • fruiting bracts ovate, not truncate at base, 1/4 inch wide or less
  • saline areas along the coast in Kleberg County and inland saline sites in La Salle, Starr and Webb counties
