- herbaceous perennial usually 1 foot tall or less
- leaves mostly in a basal rosette, only a few on stem, mostly obovate or spoon-shaped, up to 1 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide
- stem branched in upper half, each branch ending in a cluster of small white to reddish flowers
- occurs in openings in thornscrub on tight sandy soils over caliche
- Hidalgo and Starr counties
- also found in Nuevo Leon and Coahuila
