Frankenia johnstonii
  • multi-stemmed low shrub forming rounded clumps mostly 1 - 11/2 feet in diameter
  • leaves opposite, gray-green, 1 inch long or less, very narrow, edges rolled under
  • flowers with 5 (or 6) white lobes
  • found in alkaline, saline clay flats and gravelly slopes
  • often abundant where present
  • Starr, Zapata and Webb counties
  • also in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas
