- low-growing perennial with many spreading stems, usually < 1 foot tall
- leaves pinnately compound, with many tiny leaflets
- flowers yellow, appearing at various times during growing season (after rains?)
- buds reddish but petals yellow
- in grasslands on sandy to loamy clay in South Texas and eastern Tamaulipas, but rare throughout range
