  • intricately branched shrub usually 3-5 feet tall
  • leaves alternate, simple, hairy, with fine teeth along margins
  • ranges from Llano County south to Brooks County, always in sandy soils
  • bark shiny, as in cherry and peach trees
  • flowers with five small white petals
  • blooms in March
  • fruit like a miniature peach, not quite an inch long, with fuzzy skin
