- intricately branched shrub usually 3-5 feet tall
- leaves alternate, simple, hairy, with fine teeth along margins
- ranges from Llano County south to Brooks County, always in sandy soils
- bark shiny, as in cherry and peach trees
- flowers with five small white petals
- blooms in March
- fruit like a miniature peach, not quite an inch long, with fuzzy skin
